It's the Little Things ...

Good thing I had a grocery list.  On overload, mentally, I had  a hard time remembering anything.

I had asked my daughter to write the list for me, on the way to school.  She wrote down our needs and wants, dutifully.

Milk.  Crackers.  Yogurt. Butter. Noodles.  Pizza.  A cucumber and some peppers. Stuff.

I wandered aimlessly up and down the aisles of the grocery store with things on my mind, stacked like groceries on the shelf.

Friends with sorrows. Children with needs. Presents to be purchased. Items requested for school. Errands I needed to run.  A study I was writing.  A concern about a particular situation.  A sorrowful memory from the past.

It was one of those days.  I didn’t have a lot of time, and with a lot on my mind,  I couldn’t quite get my act together.

And then I looked down.

Apparently, when I placed my shopping list down on my purse, after checking off the items to be purchased, I set it down, upside down.

New words, not needs or wants, were written on the other side of my list.

These gentle words, in my daughters handwriting, brought hope; words that I needed that day.

The Lord knew it, and somehow in His unexplainable ways, He made it known to my sensitive, sweet child, who wrote me words of life.

“I love you, Mom.  Remember, God is always watching over you.”

Funny how it’s the little things that make the most difference, and how God gives us truly just WHAT we need WHEN we need it.

When she got home from school that day, I told her the story.  She smiled, “I wondered if you were going to see it, Mom.  I’m glad it made your day. It's all true, you know?”

So dear of her. So dear of Him.

What about you?  It’s the little things the Lord does for us, sometimes through others, that can make all the difference. How have you see Him?  I’m glad I turned that paper over and saw it that day. Lord, help me look for you in the little things each day.
